family centered maternity care Where families are born …

Here at Doctors Hospital we understand that with childbirth comes the birth of a family, as well. New relationships are formed with new responsibilities. At the Clyde A. Burgamy Center for Women you can decide how to make your childbirth experience right for your family. A mother-baby nurse will care for both you and your new baby, nurturing the bonding and attachment in your new family. In fact, the mother-baby nurse cares for the whole family. We realize that your childbirth experience will create lifelong memories and family bonds.

You’ll call it wonderful … we call it couplet care

Doctors Hospital understands that your baby belongs to you, to your family, and not to the hospital. We are committed to giving each of you the education and support your family needs to welcome your new baby into your lives.

Mother-baby care, or couplet care, is not the same as rooming in, where you are expected to care for your baby by yourself after childbirth. Instead, the same nurse cares for both mom and baby in the comfort and convenience of her room. As the mother, it is your decision when your baby leaves your room.

What are the benefits of couplet care?

  • Smoother adjustment
  • Better communication
  • More confidence through better education
  • Peace of mind having your baby at your side
  • Breastfeeding is easier and likely to be more successful
  • Your baby will cry less and be more stable at your side
  • No special moments are missed
  • Family bonding is promoted

Single-room maternity care

At the Center for Women, you will enjoy the convenience of receiving family-centered maternity care in one room throughout your hospital stay – during childbirth, throughout recovery and postpartum. Because we believe that mothers, babies and families belong together, we want you to stay together after childbirth, without moving from one room to another. Our LDRPs are designed with a home-like décor, giving your family the comfort and privacy that you need. With the exception of medical emergencies, you and your baby can remain together from birth until discharge, if you desire.

Safe & secure

A new state-of-the-art infant security system enhances your baby’s safety and your peace of mind.

We are here for you …

The Center for Women at Doctors Hospital has a Special Care Nursery (Level II) for premature infants, or those needing additional care. When a premature childbirth is anticipated or a mother is considered high-risk, our neonatologists and peri-neonatologists are available to consult with parents and address their questions and concerns. Babies who have to stay at the hospital once mom is discharged can still have their family nearby. Families of these infants can stay free of charge in the Center for Women’s "boarder rooms," based on availability.

Cradle Club

We believe that you and your new baby should be pampered, and the Cradle Club at Doctors Hospital does just that. The Cradle Club is open to all expectant parents. The program offers a full slate of educational programs for the entire family. To view a schedule of classes, to register, or for more information, please call 706.651.BABY (2229) or 800.265.8624 or visit the website.

Special touches …

The Center for Women offers your family the opportunity to have a picture of your baby placed on our secure WebNursery free of charge. Relatives and friends can see your newborn even if they don’t live in the area.

After childbirth, your family can announce the new arrival throughout the hospital with a lullaby. The FirstTune lullaby is activated by pressing a button on the unit.

When it’s time to go home, you'll leave the Clyde A. Burgamy Center for Women with a baby bow and a special birth certificate imprinted with your baby’s footprints.

WebNursery

If you choose, you can have a picture of your baby placed on our website. Relatives and friends can then view your newborn and receive vital statistics within hours of childbirth. Access the website by clicking here.
